On the 26th of December 2011, the I CAN Centre held a ceremony to felicitate and award certificates to the 23 students who had successfully completed the 6 month Diploma in Computer Application Course (DCA ).

Daily Maths Tutoring Started
2 batches of Math Tution are being conducted at the ICAN Centre daily between 5- 7 pm.
Around 25 students of + 2 grade are currently attending the same.

November through to December –
Mrs Archana R who is an M Phil, M.A (1st rank holder in English) is conducting a 7 session workshop on Saturday evenings at The I CAN Centre on Developing Spoken English Skills.
The course started in the middle of November and will run through till the end of December. More than 25 students have enrolled for the course.
The course will focus on the basics of grammar and sentence construction and will involve, amongst other things, activities like role-play, making self-introductions and speaking confidently about current affairs topics.

Mrs Salma Salahuddin will be joining I CAN as Director of the I CAN Centre in Chennai from 1st Novemeber 2011.
I CAN is planning to hold a range of soft skills programs in a few weeks time. Watch this space for more details!!

The I CAN Trust has awarded 5 (five) ‘ Early Start Scholarships’ this month, to meritorious students, enrolled in ARSHA NURSERY and PRIMARY SCHOOL.
One of the selection criteria was based on students who secured 75 % marks in their previous year’s exams.
The ‘Early Start Scholarships’ awardee students are:
1. Salma Afrose – Grade 4
2. Razia – Grade 3
3. Afroze – Grade 2
4. Farida Parveen – Grade 2
5. Shazia– Grade 2
The I CAN Centre has started offering free one-to-one guidance and counselling services for school and college going children.
This service is currently being offered to the students enrolled at the Computer Centre but will soon open up to external students as well.
Counselling Sessions, twice weekly : Tues/Wed ( 4-7 p.m.)
Dr R Subashini, a psychologist and counsellor with more than 30 years experience teaching Undergraduate and Post graduate courses and in research guidance, is now the Consultant Psychologist at the Centre. The Counselling sessions are currently scheduled for Tuesday or Thursday evenings between 4:00 pm and 7:00 pm.

Dr R. Subashini is an Associate Professor in the Department of Applied Psychology and Behavioral Research , JBAS College for Women , Teynampet. She has presented papers at and participated in numerous seminars across the world and is serving as a resource person at several Colleges in India.

A prize distribution ceremony for the 1st Batch of Students who attended the ” Summer Course 2011 ” , was held on 8th July 2011 at the premises of I CAN Computer Training Centre in Roypettah, Chennai.
Certificates of Attendance were distributed to all. Deserving Students were awarded Certificates of Merit. A separate category of meritorious students who scored above 90% in the exam were awarded Cash prizes.
The students who achieved distinction ( above 90%) were:

The prizes were given away by the Chief Guests Mr. Kazim Fareed of Zurich Financial Services, Dubai and Mrs. Anees Fathima Kazim, Senior Teacher with Arab Unity School, Dubai. The I CAN Trust Board Management were represented by their Trustees Mr. Ishrath Habibullah and Mrs. Tasneem Khan Ishrath.
Training to Improve Computer Literacy aimed at Women and Children
” I CAN ” Trust, launched a new programme aimed at improving the Computer Knowledge skills of Women and Children.
The current plan of the ‘I CAN” Trust is to provide free technical skills and assistance to improve the skills of the underprivileged muslim minorities. The programme starts in the first week of June 2011.

I CAN TRUST launches ‘Computer Training Centre’ at their newly furnished and equipped premises in Royapettah.
The inaugration of the ‘Centre’ was with the preliminary program which had about 35 children attending. They benefited from learning PC skills and how to handle computers ie. basic computer skills.
